Mr. Dana Goward is President of the Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit. The foundation is dedicated to protecting, toughening and augmenting GPS signals. Foundation efforts include supporting GPS spectrum protection, stronger laws and better enforcement against jamming and spoofing, and a high power terrestrial signal to provide a second source for precise, wireless navigation and synchronized timing. Captain Christian Hempstead came ashore in 2000 after 19 years of sea-going experience, and embarked on a career in integrated navigation. He taught as an instructor and professor at PMI-MITAGS and USMM. While at USMM, he built five labs with 90 visual ownships. He was author of the first approved ECDIS course in the U.S., and later of the first certified ECDIS course at U.S. maritime academies. He was the principal contributor to the ECDIS training requirements in the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments Full Bio

Captain Peter Langbein

“New Electronic Age for Masters”

Captain Peter Langbein graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany and received his degree in “Diplom Nautiker” and “AGW” (Watchkeeping Officer).

In 1991, Captain Langbein came ashore to work for Bremer Schiffsmeldedienst (BSDM) and since 2001 has been the sole owner of the company. BSDM is an interface between ship and provide highly accurate sea charts. The company is a neutral information service provider for navigation and the ports on the Weser, Ems, Jade and Cuxhaven Rivers.

Glen Paine is the Executive Director of the MMP MATES Program that operates the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduates Studies (MITAGS) / The Conference Center co-located near the Baltimore / Washington International Airport, and the Pacific Maritime Institute, located in Seattle, Washington.

The schools have been providing vocational training programs for professional deck officers, masters, pilots, and military personnel for over forty years. They are among the leading maritime training and simulation centers in the world today. Curriculum now includes over 100 courses, covering many of the STCW required courses.

C. James Patti has served as President of the Maritime Institute for Research and Industrial Development (Maritime Institute) since April 3, 1985. The Maritime Institute is a Washington, D.C.-based association representing the legislative interests of United States-flag shipping companies having a collective bargaining relationship with the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots.
