1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament
The 1st Annual Seattle Council of American Master Mariners Golf Tournament to benefit the Youth Maritime Training Association was a success. The sponsorship support was excellent, especially from the Puget Sound Maritime Community. We put 44 golfers onto the course at Mount Si and the weather was scattered clouds and light airs.
The ladies from Compass Courses Maritime Training won several prizes, but finished out of the money in the team play. Overall Foss #1, lead by Monte Crowley, finished 1st. There was a three-way tie for second, between Crowley, TOTE, and Horizon Lines. Using predetermined tie-breakers, TOTE led by Rich Griffith finished 2nd, Followed by Crowley, with Horizon Lines losing out.
We received very positive feed back from all who attended. One player went the extra distance and emailed Captain Klein saying, “Again, I had a great time at the event and look forward to next year’s outing. You and your team did a super job putting it all together, you would have never known that it was the first. A great way to help the youth!”
The success of the event was made possible by volunteers – Lyn McCelland, Pat Hartle, Captains Carl Johannes, Chuck Lund, Georg Pedersen, and Pete Chelemedos from CAMM. Rachael Shrewsbury, Gary Stouffer, Justin Poulson, and Chris and Emily Roman volunteered from the YMTA side. They all did a great job of making the event run smoothly.
Our CAMM volunteers were very active with the players and we expect to gain several new members. The best part is that CAMM Seattle will be presenting a $3,000 Check to YMTA!
Thanks to all who helped make this a great day.
RJ Klein
