As always we encourage you to bring guests or a new member.
Our chapter is small but it is blessed with some truly exceptional Masters.
The Los Angeles / Long Beach Chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month except August. At our meetings we discuss maritime affairs and keep up to date on our ever changing industry. Visitors and new members are truly welcome.
We meet at the Think Cafe in San Pedro. The chapter has about a half dozen stalwart members and several who stop by on occasion. Paul Nielsen has taken over the duties of Chapter Secretary/Treasurer relieving Dick Bara who served as Chapter Secretary for decades. Thanks to both of these gentlemen.
The Chapter participates in the annual Maritime Day remembrance on May 22nd each year at the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial. Captains Larry Welsh, Richard Connelly, Richard Bara, Paul Nielsen, and Bent Christensen were very instrumental in having the Maritime Memorial put up in San Pedro. After that, the Wall of Honor, with the names of all of the ships that were sunk during WWII and the names of those who were lost and imprisoned in POW camps. Since then, Paul Nielsen and Bent Christensen fought hard and won against the promoters of the Bridged to Breakwater Committee to remove the memorial and the Maritime Museum.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, except August at 11:30 at the Think cafe, in San Pedro. Early Arrivals at 11:30, call to order at 12:00 noon. Cost of lunch is $25.00.
