About the New York Metro Chapter
In 2015 Captain George Sandberg, #1919-R, graciously agreed to take the helm as Chapter President with Captain Carl Winter as Chapter Vice President. Thank you to the two captains and CAMM Regional VP Captain Frank Zabrocky for their efforts to revitalize the Original Chapter of CAMM.
The New York Metro Chapter serves the Northeast U.S., including Maine to New Jersey. The chapter received its charter from CAMM on September 12, 1967 making it the second oldest chapter in the council. This is somewhat misleading as the Council of American Master Mariners was founded in New York in 1936. New York was the headquarters and meeting place for CAMM until a chapter charter was issued to Houston in April,1967. Since the first two chapters were chartered in 1967 (Houston and New York) ten chapters have received charters.
Become a New York Metro Chapter Member
Any member of the National CAMM in good standing, residing, working, or otherwise situated within the huge area of New Jersey to Maine is eligible to join the New York Metro chapter. Members of the national Council not residing or working in the area described and not affiliated with another established chapter of CAMM may be a member of and associate with the PONY/NJ chapter. We offer six classes of membership, with the same requirements of the national CAMM: Regular, Special, Pilot Regular, Pilot Special, Associate, and Honorary.
We also offer Companion membership class for members who are not members of national CAMM. Companion members shall have all the rights and privileges of active membership, with the exception of voting and holding elective office.
