Law of the Sea
International Seabed Authority Treaty

OPPOSED

CAMM opposes legislation currently before Congress making the United States signatory to “The International Seabed Authority”.

If passed, this treaty would relegate the following powers to a central authority in Brussels.

  1. The power to regulate seven tenths of the world’s surface area.
  2. The power to levy International Taxes.
  3. The power to impose quotas on oil production, sea-bed mining, etc.
  4. The power to regulate ocean research and exploration.
  5. The creation of an International Court System for seafarers.

Of principle concern to CAMM’s members (and other American seafarers) is that the law would no longer follow the “FLAG”. Hence, American Shipmasters accused of offenses at sea would be tried at an International Court in Brussels. All such prosecutions would be conducted without the benefit and protection of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.

CAMM urges members to contact their legislators and voice their opposition to America’s participation in this Treaty as written.
