The Positions Committee’s goal is to participate in the decision making process of agencies and regulatory bodies that affect our profession. Recent positions subjects covered include mariner fatigue due to workload and manning, and the use of simulators in training and certifying mariners.

In addition, three discussion papers were submitted to the Coast Guard relating to STCW Convention requirements. The first concerned the technical knowledge requirements of electronics technicians, and whether an electronic technician should be a shipboard rating and required on manning certificates. The second examined work hour limitations and rest periods. The third was the sleeping lion of our industry—ship specific training.

Committee Members:
Capt. James Morgan, Chairman
Capt. Donald Moore (SPNW)
Capt. Robert Park (Tampa Bay)
